(Udir, 2016)
This is a remembering activity with the power words select,
retrieve and memorize.
Into:
In the into-activity the students will go over their notes
and select key information, in English, about a specific topic that is
relevant for their history lessons.
Through:
The technology used in the activity is called StudyBlue. It
is a way to make flashcards online for free, which makes it easier for the
students to bring the flashcards home with them. Another benefit of the online
flashcards is that it is easy to share among students. This could be harmful
for a student if he or she doesn’t make their own cards, and only copy someone
else. On the other hand, that student will at least have some cards to practice
with, which is better than no cards. In the through-activity the students will,
in pairs, make the flashcards at www.studyblue.com. Working in pairs will
hopefully give them more facts to work with, and make it easier for the
students who are struggling with the language.
Beyond:
This is after they have made the flashcards online. The
students will be able to practice their factual knowledge in the same pairs at
school, so that they can fact check each other based on what they agreed upon
when they made the cards. This way the students get to both quiz each other in
pairs, and later log on to StudyBlue when they get home and practice on their
own. This is a great activity to summarize a topic and prepare for a quiz.
The teacher can assess the success of the learning activity by walking around the classroom and listen in on students quizzing each other.
